Specttrum News (Narvijay Yadav): The week-long International Yoga Festival 2016, jointly organized by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB), Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) and Parmarth Niketan, started at Rishikesh on Tuesday.
Parmarth Niketan has been hosting this event since 1999. Yogacharyas, teachers, students and seekers come from every corner of the globe to participate in the colourful program.
Around 1000 participants from various countries are taking part in the event. The classes are held between 4 AM to 9:30 PM daily, with around 70 revered saints, yogacharyas, presenters and experts from 20 countries.
Ashtanga Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Bharat Yoga, Deep Yoga, Shintoh Yoga and Somatics Yoga are just a few of the more than 150 different offerings throughout the week. There will also be held classes in meditation, mudras, Sanskrit chanting, reiki, Indian philosophy etc.
Further, spiritual discourses will be held by revered spiritual leaders from India and abroad. There will also be cultural programmes highlighting the culture of Garhwal region as well as musicians from Israel, Australia and the US.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Harish Rawat inaugurated the festival. Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai and Tourism Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, Sri Mooji, Sri Prem Babaji and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati were also present on the occasion.
