Specttrum News: To promote the Buddhist heritage and pilgrimage sites, the Tourism Ministry of India has organised the 5th International Buddhist Conclave (2-6 October, 2016) in Varanasi-Sarnath in association with the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar governments.

The conclave was inaugurated by Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister for Tourism and Culture on Sunday in New Delhi.

ASEAN is the Guest of Honour Partner of this conclave. A large number of Buddhist leaders, tour operators and state governments are taking part in the programme.

Representatives from around 38 countries including Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Myanmar, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam are participating.

The conclave will include panel discussions, business meetings between international and domestic tour operators and state governments, an exhibition highlighting Buddhist attractions in India, as well as visits to important Buddhist sites in and around Varanasi, Sarnath and Bodhgaya.
