Specttrum News: The second annual, 3-day Jageshwar International Yoga Festival was inaugurated on 5 October. The festival is jointly organized by the Government of Uttarakhand, Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) and Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh). 

 

Parmarth Niketan Ashram is well-known for organizing and hosting the world famous annual International Yoga Festival, Rishikesh on 1-7 March each year, attracting hundreds of Yogis from across the world, which is now in its 17th year.


Together with the department of Tourism, Government of Uttarakhand, it was decided that the inspiration and transformation of Parmarth’s International Yoga Festival should also be extended to the Kumaon region during the beautiful Autumn season. 

 

Present at the inauguration were Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, President, Parmarth Niketan; Govind Singh Kunjwal, Speaker, Government of Uttarakhand; Savin Bansal, DM, Almora; D Santhil Pandiyan, Commissioner, Almora; TS Martholia, GM, KMVN; Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, Director, International Yoga Festival and President, Divine Shakti Foundation; Sadhvi Abha Saraswati, Director, Parmarth Yoga Department.


Swami Chidanand said, “Uttarakhand is not only a piece of land, but a land of peace. Jageshwar is truly the land of meditation and the land of transformation. Being here is yoga and meditation. To our international and national delegates from over 15 countries- Welcome Home.” 


Speaker Mr Kunjwal said, "We welcome you to this sacred land of Shiva, one of the greatest Yogis. I believe with Swami Chadanand's vision and leadership we will be able to truly welcome our global family to this sacred land of Shiva- Shri Jageshwar Dham. Jageshwar will truly become the center for Yoga and Meditation." 

 

Sadhvi Bhagawati welcomed participants by adding, “ You have all been called here to India, to Uttarakhand, to this sacred Jageshwar Dham for a special reason. This is not like a yoga conference in London or Paris or New York or Sydney. In this sacred land of Jageshwar, you not only receive teachings but you also receive the divine touch and divine transformation of Yoga.” 

 

The event was also geared at highlighting the historic and sacred Jageshwar Dham, as part of the rich and abundant natural and spiritual heritage of the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.


As an integral part of the festival, the participants visited and meditated at the Jageshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as the Lord of Yoga, one of the most ancient and sacred 12 Jyotirlings. All participants were deeply inspired and touched by the holy sanctuary in the lush Deodar forests.
