Modern lifestyle and obesity can affect the functioning of Kidneys. Obesity brings changes in the microstructure of kidneys, leading to protein leakage and gradually leading to kidney failure.  However, the encouraging development in the research of artificial kidneys is a good news for the kidney patients, informed by Dr Manish Singla, kidney expert on the eve of the World Kidney Day.


Dr Manish Singla, the only kidney specialist in Chandigarh Tricity holding a fellowship degree from Clinical Nephrology University of Toronto, Canada, said, “There are thousands of patients on dialysis awaiting kidney transplant.  Now there is a ray of hope in the form of artificial kidney for such patients. Actual experiments of implanting the artificial kidney into humans have already started inUSAand it is not far that the community of kidney specialists will succeed into bringing this artificial kidney to the people. It will be a miracle for the dialysis patients.” 


Dr Singla further added that obesity and diabetes are the two prime causes of kidney failure in most of the patients in tricity and the surrounding region ofPunjaband Haryana states.


The menace of kidney related diseases can be avoided by controlling the blood sugar, high blood pressure and obesity. Regular physical activity of at least 30 to 40 minutes in a day and drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday can help the people keeping fit.


A series of activities are lined up to mark the World Kidney Day on 9th March atMayoHospital. The programme will commence at 11.30 AM, where Dr Singla will address the gathering of patients, their relatives, donors and will give tips on how to lead a healthy life and how to prevent kidney problems.


A team of other kidney specialists will also participate in the event, including Dr Virendra Dhankar, Dr Rajesh Gulia, Dr Manoj Sharma, Dr Karun Singla, Dr Vikrant and Dr Deepak Tyagi. Kidney donors will be falicitated and given gifts and certificates.
